Well. I am not an expert so I could be wrong but have you thought of the Rainbow. no only rainbow in the sky but also created artificially by sprinkling water with a hose in a sunny day.

A rainbow is made by REFRACTION not diffraction. It is my experience that the man in the street is totally ignorant of any such effects either with light or sound. However sound diffraction is more likely to be noticed. Example put on your favourite music in the your room then go out of the room but stand by the door. Move your head from side to side and you will notice drops in volume at certain positions of your head. Very subtle though.
