Depends what you eat. The central tourist areas are very expensive. cafeterias in back streets or in supermarkets can be cheap. Why not buy sandwiches or something from a supermarket or a loaf of bread and some cheese or meat from a local shop or market. In Italy you can save money by standing at the counter, you pay extra to sit down! The worst value meal I ever had was in venice. We were sat at a table in a narrow, dark alleyway. We ordered pizza and it turned out to be the kind you buy at the very cheapest freezer shop and cost about 30 times the purchase price.
