French Toast was not invented in France! It dates back to the 4th or 5th century. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_toast. In France it is not called French Toast - it is called pain perdu. So - to answer your question. When you order toast in France, they bring you toast - just like toast is in the US.

French toast along with French fries, French leave, French letters and French kissing has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with France, it is purely an American invention. Ask for toast and that is exactly what you will get, toast.
