If you dont need a it right away Asus is realeasing the transformer book trio which can act as a laptop a tablet and even a desktop. Check it out er-book-trio/35827211. This would probably be the most comprehensive solution. The cheapest... probably not. You need to sit down and evaluate... well your needs. You almost certainly will need a laptop. That is almost mandatory with most schools now. A tablet can also be a huge help in taking notes and organizing information. If you can only get one go for the Dell Venue 8 PRO. Make sure to get the PRO. Its cheap right now. Less than $300. It runs a full version of windows in a tablet size. What does this mean for you? Your tablet can do most of the things a laptop can. The only real exception is higher end gaming.

not an ipad nor an android tablet nor a windows rt tablet. Either get a windows(8.1, not RT) tablet or a laptop. You will most likely need Microsoft Office for your studies and android+ipad don't have it. The best option IMO is the ASUS Transformer t100a. Essentially its a windows 8.1 tablet, it comes with a keyboard dock, 10 hour battery life, and comes with microsoft office
