US answer: In the year you turn 24 there are only two ways your parents can claim you as a dependent. One requires that you are totally and completely disabled and do not provide for more than half of your own support. The other requires that your income for the year is less than the amount of the personal exemption ($3900 for 2013) and that your parents provide more than half of your support. I'm guessing neither situation applies to you and that your parents can no longer claim you as a dependent.

If you are 24 or older on 12/31/2013 (the only day that counts), then income of $3900 or more automatically disqualifies you.

if you attended full time school 5 months of the year, lived in the household or your parents 6 months and did NOT provide more than 50% of your own support, they claim you this year and this is the last year if your full time job provided enough to indicate you were able to provide more than 50% of your own support it could very well be questioned about your dependency

Age 24 and NOT a qualified disabled taxpayer during the 2013 tax year and income that was MORE than 3900 received during the 2013 tax year then your parents can NOT claim you as a dependent at all on their 2013 1040 FIT return during the 2014 tax filing season. Sure does sound like you do have it down pat at this time in your life. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 12/14/2013

Your understanding is wrong. Your age merely stops them from claiming you as a "qualifying child". They may or may not be able to claim you as a "qualifying relative". It depends on how much money you made and several other things.
