In a pinch most of the shops in France will sell a packet of brown sauce mix, either demi glaze or espagnole, it will work the same as Bisto does, just wet it and stir it into the pan juices from the roast, add some wine if you like

Never heard of Bisto. Make a slurry with flour and water.. add it to your pan drippings.. This is how gravy has been made for hundreds of years.

You can make gravy by frying onions, add some water to the pan and crumble in an oxo cube with some Worcester sauce and sprinkle dried instant mashed potato a little bit at a time to thicken. It sounds a bit horrible but it does work and makes a lovely gravy.
