Yes, you have to go to university. Never seen an accountant without a degree. At best you could work in accounting inputing data, or sorting papers (low pay).

You MUST go to a university to be a charted accountant. How else are you going to meet the educational requirements??

No, you don't need to go to university to be an accountant. The major firms how run school leaver programmes (you need excellent A-levels). Bit worried that your own research hasn't clarified that for you - just googling on 'how to become an accounant' would have got you straight to the answer - see ements.htm and various other sites you get if you google as suggested.
