repeat them to yourself while you walk back to your station. Once there, write them down.

maybe ask them what the people want after they order to make sure you got it right, I've been to restaurants where they do that and they always come back with the right food. So then you could maybe say them to yourself on the way back to the kitchen too and see what happens.. good luck

call them out, one item at a time to confirm what you heard was what they said. your point about such limitations is very valid which is why very few people seeking work tolerate running a cash register at a fast food place.........for very long. it is a dinosaur method of operation
