They don't own cars like most American families do. Its not a luxury to have more than one car family in America though but its a necessity because to get to one place is a distance. Public transport is limited. In China and elsewhere like Japan, Korea etc (only those corporate fat cats are mostly pot bellied and obese), the majority of the people walk to underground subway or trains, and most people use the bicycles as their main transport. Chinese meal in average Chinese homes consist of rice, a soup, a meat dish and vegetables. Unlike an average American family meal for example a family of four, need a chicken drumsticks and a baked potatoes each which is the cheapest meal for four. In China, a family of four may only need one chicken drumstick with only one potato cooked with soy sauce, then rice and plenty of stir fry veggie with just garlic. Sometimes, the Chinese meal will include grandparents too then they all go off, to think of ways to make more money and profit. Its my opinion after observing the cultural differences between America and Asian countries being that I was caught in between of those two cultures *

Meat is used more as a flavoring agent, condiment and garnish rather than the centerpiece of the meal. The average Chinese meal is comprised mostly of vegetables and starches (usually rice or noodles) with just a little bit of meat.
