both of the graphics cards will last upto 4yrs and play games on high settings...gtx 780ti has better performance for now but it will change very soon...AMD MANTLE is a software which most the games will support in future and it gives greater optimization for a graphic card for the developers..battlefield 4 have mantle support coming in a week and it will increase perdormance by 20% which will leave 780ti in the dust...also 290x has true audio which audio components is build on the graphics card so that developers can provide better audio similar t asus xonar..and also 290x is cheaper than 780ti...i would have bought 290x straight away

The GTX 780ti is a better GPU. However if Mantle takes off and is used in loads of games then you would probably get better performance from a 290x. I wouldn't expect either of them to max out games for four years though.

Wait for 3-4 months and get NVidia's GTX 800 series (Maxwell architecture) top of the line model (I think that will be a GTX 880). Those will be the true next gen gaming beasts.
