Most of those tiny bottles of food coloring can be used for just about anything without them affecting the taste of the food. Go ahead, it should be fine.

Bridget, not with yellow cake, you need Vanilla or white cake for the food coloring to give you a good final product. Look at the Duncan Hines Box mix.

White cake would be better, but yellow would work. It may take a little more color. The dropper coloring you have is fine to use in the cake and the in the frosting, too. It takes so little coloring that it will not make a difference in your recipe. Just add as much as needed for your favorite color. Be advised, red takes a lot of color to turn something red. You may end up with a pink color instead of red.
