I've switched to only drinking water, and the weight is falling off me now. I used to do pretty intense cardio, drinking a bottle of Powerade, and hardly shifted a pound. Since I've switched to water, I've lost 7lbs in 2 weeks. I think if you're trying to lose weight, you don't want that "instant fuel" for your body. You want your body to burn fat for fuel. That's the point of exercising when trying to lose weight. You still need to keep your body hydrated, so need the water, but not the sugar, glucose, or anything else that your body will use for fuel. Energy drinks are good if you need to keep going for a sporting purpose - a game of soccer or basketball or something, or running a marathon. Something where you need to keep going until the end. For losing weight; water. I'm not an expert, but I have been trying to lose weight by diet and exercise for a long time, and this is my experience.
