No. They're a great way for independent film makers to get their products distributed, as that's always one of the hard parts for them. They have the money to film and finance their product, but not the stuff to market it. If you're talking about some films that are shown there, then yes some can be pretentious, but others aren't. There're so many different genres of film there, and they're not always philosophical art pieces.
