Same here- I thought I was horrible in math and then I went to Aircraft Maintenance School where a math teacher taught me more math than I had been able to learn in twelve years of Public School! Now I'm a Commercial Pilot. You have let math intimidate you. You are obviously quite intelligent because your linguistics are great. Get some tutuoring in math and yoou'll surprise yourself.

The basic answer is 'yes", you need to have some better math skills. A 'C' grade on a year 7 numeracy test is simply inadequate. My nine year old can already score close to 100% on the year-7 NAPLAN numeracy tests. The good news is that you have plenty of time to improve your skills.
