It sounds like you deserve someone better. I wouldn't definitely not have the wedding anytime in the near future until you feel better about your relationship or decide to find someone else. In my opinion, if you have to question your partner and don't trust them fully, you shouldn't be with them. Good luck!

Here's your first problem - getting engaged after dating for only two weeks, and *knowing* it's not the honeymoon period. The honeymoon period lasts for roughly 18-24 months. So yeah...you're in the honeymoon period. If he's showing these hugely negative traits within the first few weeks of dating, when normal people try their hardest to be on their best behavior, that's all red flags. Dump this guy. And the next guy you date, don't entertain the idea of getting married until you've been dating for at least a year. I'm betting you rushed into that first engagement too.

You grabbed at the first guy you thought was better than you have had, and it was too soon, wrong guy, too much pressure, and you both deserve not to do this. It's understandable that you would want to 'seal the deal' with someone who was both familiar and seemed like a good match, but the bottom line is that you rushed. The other part is that if he became belittling and abusive when the heat was turned up, that is what you can expect when other things go wrong down the road - and they will. Let him go - really. You have beaten each other up enough, and this is not meant to be. It was kinda sorta OK, but you need it to be far better than that to commit your whole life to it, and it would be predictable that he would not only keep his ex on the back burner - which he has all along (and therefore you are a place holder for HER), but sooner or later, this will fall apart. Why duct tape yourself to someone who will be prying himself away in the foreseeable future? DON'T. You can let someone go and still care about them. That's where you are now.
