a DVI socket usually contains VGA signals as well. Because this is optional, and there are two types of DVI, DVI-I and DVI-D, you may or may not have the signals. If you have 2 DVI connectors then VGA can be on 0,1, or 2 of them. use a DVI-->VGA cable that has the correct wiring to use the VGA instead of the DVI
