Different brands and different types within each brand are designed to last different lengths of time. Some contacts are designed to be worn around the clock (even while sleeping!) and may last a month. Others are designed to last just 2 weeks without any cleaning but you have to take them out at night. Others still are intended to last all year but again, not for sleeping and the cleaning can be quite involved for those. It's best that you follow your eye doctor's instructions on this for your particular contacts. If you ever notice them in your eyes, it's a good sign that it's time to change them. You can scratch your eyes if you try to keep the same pair too long and can cause some real damage, so it's best to err on the side of caution and just follow the recommendation of your doctor.

It depends upon the type of lenses you wear. If its extended wear then you can wear it continuously daily upto 30 days or so. But if its not an extended wear then you can wear for 10-12 hours upto 5 days in a week.
