They can only be taking money by direct debit WITH your consent. You have probably been filling in details on sites which offer to find you loans. Speak to your bank to find out what you can do and in future be careful where you give your bank details.

If you have online banking, you can go into your account and cancel any standing orders or direct debits. This is what you should do.

If outstanding direct debits have been put onto the system, the bank will not allow you to close the account until those payments have been made. Closing the account is not the answer - you need to go into the bank, sort out what is going on, and get the bank to block any unauthorised payments.
