Course you can get on a housing list but it wont do you any good You will at the bottom of that list and stay there a long time You bought a house and failed to repay the mortgage - thats regarded and making yourself homeless by your own action (or inaction) SO the council is under NO obligation to house you Your ONLY option is find yourself somewhere to rent

If you've only got a year left, take in a lodger so you have some income and can pay off the final year of the mortgage. No lender in their right might would repossess in this situation.

Yes you can easily get onto a housing list for a council home. But you will be at the bottom of the queue and you will probably be number 10,597 so I reckon you might get a council home by the time you reach 91 years of age.

Yes, if you have housing need , but as a single person over 18 it's unlikely that you'll ever be rehoused by the council. You need to use any spare money that you make from the sale to find a private place to rent.
