They can collect only property that belongs to the debtor. As you have realised, it may be difficult to prove who owns what if there are no receipts in a shared household.

If you not longer have receipts it can be seized by collection agency. Put your property elsewhere. Collection agency comes over takes note of all sizable property and then returns.

Your dad can use this to his advantage. Debt collectors can only take stuff that belongs to your dad. If they take other stuff they're in real trouble. It's straight theft. All your dad has to do when the debt collectors ask about stuff is say "No. That's X's" and they can't take it.
