Answer #16 | 17/09 2006 09:56
It is 5:59 pm, military time works on a 12 hour clock so anytime am would be from 0-1159 and then PM would be 1200 to 2400. Subtracting the 12 from the PM hours gives you civilian time.

Answer #18 | 17/09 2006 16:05
Military time is really easy to understand. Instead of AM and PM, we use the 24hr system. This is how it works: If it is in the AM, then the time would be normal i.e., 9 AM would be 0900. If it was 11AM, then it would be 1100. Now if the time is in the PM, then just add 12 hours, i.e. 5PM would be 1700. If it was 11PM, then it would be 2300. Doing time like this reduces confusion. If there is an OPORD at 1830, then i know it is at 6:30PM. If the guy said the OPORD is at 6:30, then I could take it as 6:30 AM or PM. (This method also reduces the number of excuses for being late due to confusion)
