I would try and reason with them. But whatever you decide just remember that you may need references from them for a new job.

It is up to you - but if you don't turn up you can expect a bad reference from them when you apply for another job.

Its your fault for booking tickets on a working day. All you can do now since you don't want to lose £300 is to burn our bridges and be a no show. Then you can sit at home for a couple of years wondering why you are not getting another job - and do you know why that will be? Because your employer gave you a bad reference for playing games with them.

When did you book the tickets? Did you ask your boss if you could take the day off, prior to booking the tickets? For $300, I would not want to lose either, but, regardless if you gave your notice or not, sounds like, you did not get authorization prior to paying. And, they state that holidays are mandatory, so should not have been surprised that they scheduled you. Concert is from 3 pm to 9 pm, and last shift is 4 pm, so, could still go to the concert after work, but not be there for the full concert, (5 hours vs 6) so as not to waste the $300. Your choice, but, do not do a no show, but, could tell her will not be there so they can be prepared, but, they may tell you that your final day is now, not 2 weeks from now.

I don't know about the UK, but in the US if someone calls your previous employer all they can do is confirm that you worked there and what dates you were employed. They can not say you were a good worker or a bad worker unless you list them as a personal reference.
