Neither. The reason most people become vegan is that either they are discusted by the idea of using animals as food and other products (animal rights) or they simply want to try the newest fad diet.

Nature does not provide cows, pigs and chickens. We breed them by the billions. Does not the earth itself provide enough.

Your question goes off the assumption one can't live on vegetables. No, they aren't mentally ill (I personally love meat, but if someone doesn't want to eat meat, more for me :D)

They eat stuff like chickpeas and nuts to make up for the other protein lost. Funny you should say this because after my friend got treatment from OCD she suddenly went back to eating the meat she loved. But there are people without mental health problems that make the choice because they think it's healthier.
