Fuel pump is probably going bad. Have a mechanic do a fuel pressure test on the car and connect a scanner and read fault codes. A misfire is also likely.

You may want to check your fuel pressure, it sounds like you have A weak fuel pump or your injectors are clogging up. you might want to check your spark plugs which would cause an engine not to start or run properly, or you may have A cylinder going bad so to check this you have to your enegine compression.

Besides your mechanical problems you are having a problem when you let it run out of gas that often. It tends to pick up more trash, water and bad stuff. And you know it is causing problems so why are you doing it? Put more gas in it.

Use 91 high octane gas and clean your fuel injectors 2 times a month had the same problem with my maro.
