sounds like the head gasket has gone. go to a decent garage and ask them to test it.

If you have oil in the water, then oil should be lowering. And you also have to determine if it is ATF or engine oil. The suspects are the radiator with its ATF cooler, the engine oil cooler (if it has one), the intake manifold gasket on some cars, and the head gasket. The reason why head gaskets can allow oil into water and not water into oil, is because the oil is higher pressure, and it can bleed into the oil breather return openings. But if the oil pressure is not low, it is not immediately serious. It is only long term where oil softens the hoses.
