If you oil pressure has dropped and engine is knocking you may have already damaged the engine. The most likely cause for the drop in pressure is a bad oil pump which is located in the oil pan. The oil pump picks up the oil in the pan and circulates it throughout the engine.

I have this several times in the shop before. Make sure you have the corrected oil filter... Believe it or not ! Secondly, hook up a mechanical gauge to the engine oil adapter housing, remove the oil pressure switch and take a real reading of the oil pressure. Still have low oil pressure? Get the vehicle to a repair shop for further checking up: The oil pump could be at fault or the engine crankshaft and connecting rod bearings are defected, wore out..In that case you will need another engine. Good luck with the oil filter..

The knocking could be a broken piece in the engine. There could be an oil restriction in front of where the oil press. sensor is located, causing the oil pressure gauge to drop. Your best bet is to take it to the shop, and stop driving it before you increase the damage. Probably gonna run you anywhere from $4,500-$8,000
