it goes to your purge control valve which runs on a duty cycle. It is used to clean the hydrocarbons from the canister and burn them in the cylinders for emissions purposes. This done using engine vacuum to draw in fresh air through the canister and pull the hydrocarbons into the engine. The purge control valve is located on the firewall side of the engine. It is commanded by the ECM when conditions are correct for clearing the canister. This is a normal condition
